EITHOS Project Featured at the Italian Sociological Association Conference

The Italian Sociological Association Conference took place in Lecce from September 18th to 24th, focusing on how reason and emotion shape contemporary society.

Risks of Identity Theft between Reason and emotion

In this context, Annalisa Plava, EITHOS Fellow researcher at the University of Bologna, delivered a presentation during the session Health Technologies in the Neoliberal Society: The Role of Emotions and Reason in Diffusion Processes. Her talk, titled Breach of (Health) Data: The Risk of Identity Theft Between Reason and Emotion, was based on an empirical study by the University of Bologna. It examined online identity theft related to health data breaches, exploring the rational techniques used by criminals to commit the crime and the emotional and psychological consequences experienced by victims.

How to prevent identity theft affecting yourself?

Annalisa’s presentation provided an opportunity to introduce the EITHOS project to all conference attendees and the wider sociological community. Her insights helped raise awareness and provided valuable prevention strategies for anyone. She highlighted that victims often play an unconscious role in enabling their victimization, emphasizing the importance of not rushing into actions that could jeopardize one’s online identity. Taking a moment to reflect can be a crucial step in protecting personal information online.
